My youngest daughter, Traci, had collected a few dolls, so I decided to do a painting featuring them. My wife had an old “Terri Lee” doll from her childhood. The doll I used for the main attraction was my mother-in-law’s doll, which was 100+ years old.
I spent time working on layout and composition and decided to place the dolls on a dresser. I went to a store and looked at wallpaper, finally choosing one that ended up being very stressful. In fact, many viewers would ask, “Didn’t that wallpaper drive you crazy?” The answer is “Yes, it did.”
I then went to several hardware stores to find that perfect handle. I looked down and saw these ivory-looking handles that were perfect against the wood grain.
We exhibited the painting at a national doll convention, where collectors from all over the world attended. So many asked if I would do other paintings of dolls from other nationalities. One of these days, I will.
