In this video, I contrast the values of three VERY different oil paintings.
The first oil painting is a snow scene which features a bridge, a frozen river, and a church. You'll notice the "coolness" of the painting and how your eye is drawn to the light.
The second painting is a much warmer scene, a hillside pumpkin patch next to a really neat lane and an old barn. Again, your eye will be drawn to the areas of light.
Finally, the last painting is more "neutral," featuring a mountain surrounded by clouds. It's a very overcast day. In the foreground is a cabin on a cliff, which overlooks the foggy background.
